New York state<\/a> counts face shields<\/a> as an option to cover the face that can be used in lieu of masks, but experts are divided over how well they protect against coronavirus droplets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

infectious disease physician and professor of internal medicine and epidemiology at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, Dr. Eli Perencevich, wrote an opinion piece in the JAMA about how use of a face shield<\/a> should bebroadened from clinical environments into communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Amesh Adalja, a senior scholar at the Johns Hopkins University Center for Health Security also agreed: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“People who wear these cloth masks are invariably touching their face often to adjust it. When you’re wearing a face shield<\/a>, you’re less likely to touch your face.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201dFace shields are also more comfortable<\/a> for breathing and talking,\u201d Adalja adds.<\/p>\n
