Bank of America Strengthens Global GPS Leadership with Strategic Appointments in Mexico and Hong Kong
Bank of America has made significant strides in enhancing its Global Payments Solutions (GPS) leadership team by announcing two key appointments in Asia Pacific and Latin America. These strategic hires aim to strengthen the bank’s capacity to deliver innovative payment solutions and improve client service in these vital regions.
Key Appointments in Global Payments Solutions
Phil Carmalt Joins as Head of Asia Pacific GPS Product
Starting in late May, Phil Carmalt will take on the role of Head of Asia Pacific Global Payments Solutions (GPS) Product. Based in Hong Kong, Phil will report to Greg Kavanaugh, the Head of Global Payments Solutions Product, and Winnie Chen, Head of APAC Global Payments Solutions.
In this pivotal role, Phil will:
- Lead the region’s product management team.
- Drive the execution of GPS’s product strategy and vision across various channels.
- Oversee cash and liquidity products.
Phil’s extensive experience spans over two decades in the financial services industry, with leadership roles in Hong Kong, Singapore, and the United Kingdom. His background in transaction banking includes expertise in:
- Technology
- Programme management
- Business management
- Product development
- Client management
- Innovation
- Sales
Most recently, he served as the Head of Cash & Trade Product at DBS Hong Kong.
Gabriel Andrade Takes the Helm in Mexico
In another strategic move, Gabriel Andrade joined Bank of America in late February as Managing Director and Head of Global Payments Solutions for Mexico. Operating from Mexico City, Gabriel will lead the GPS strategy in the country, focusing on payment and receivable solutions, liquidity services, and Trade & Supply Chain Finance.
He reports to Annali Duarte, Head of Latin America Global Payments Solutions, and is a member of the Mexico Country Leadership Team, under the guidance of Emilio Romano, Country Executive for Mexico.
With over 30 years of leadership experience in the banking sector, Gabriel has held several senior positions at Citibanamex, including:
- Head of Transaction Banking Sales
- Cash Management Head for all businesses
- COO of Mexico’s Anti-Money Laundering Office
Since 2020, he has also operated as an entrepreneur and independent business consultant. Gabriel holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from C.E.S.A. in Bogotá, Colombia, a Master’s degree in International Management from the University of Saint Thomas, and an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
