Google Unveils Enhanced Android Security Features to Combat Scams and Protect Against Theft

Enhancements to Call Security

Screen Sharing Protections
Google is also introducing new screen-sharing safeguards:
- End-of-Call Reminders: Users will be prompted to stop sharing their screens once a call concludes.
- Fraud Warning Screens: A new warning screen will appear for users running Android 11 or later when accessing partner bank apps while screen sharing with unknown callers, enhancing security during sensitive transactions.
Improved Message Security
Following the initial rollout of scam protection in Google Messages, Google is expanding these features:
- AI-Powered Alerts: The tool now detects a broader range of scams, including those involving cryptocurrency and gift cards.
- Verification Keys: Users can authenticate contacts through QR codes, ensuring that their communications are secure and encrypted.
The verification feature will be available for Android users running version 10 or later later this summer, providing an additional layer of security against SIM swap attacks.
Theft Protection Measures
In an effort to enhance theft protection, Google previously introduced the Identity Check feature for Pixel and Samsung devices. Key updates include:
