Glance, the innovative lock screen platform, has unveiled a groundbreaking generative AI shopping experience that personalizes outfit suggestions for users through a custom avatar. This new feature, developed in partnership with Google, leverages the advanced capabilities of Google’s Gemini models and Vertex AI to create a unique shopping journey.

Exciting Developments in AI Shopping

Recently, Glance also secured additional funding from Google, which has been an existing investor in the platform. However, both companies have chosen not to disclose the specifics of this funding round.

AI-Powered Features in the Glance App

Glance is currently testing its AI-powered shopping experience in the U.S. through a new application known as Glance AI. The company plans to expand this feature to users in both the United States and India in the coming months.

Google is actively promoting the use of its Gemini and Cloud platforms for AI initiatives in India. Additionally, the tech giant continues to invest in promising startups, with its latest investment going to the webtoon platform Toonsutra.

Personalized Fashion Experience

According to Glance’s CEO, Naveen Tewari, the app utilizes AI to comprehend fashion trends and tailor suggestions based on user preferences. He describes the experience as akin to flipping through a fashion magazine, where users can see themselves modeled in the latest trends.

“Think of this experience as looking through a fashion magazine with the latest apparel, where you are the model on each page,” Tewari explained.

How the Glance AI App Works

The onboarding process for the Glance AI app requires users to:

  • Upload a selfie
  • Select their gender
  • Indicate their hair length and ethnicity
  • Specify their body type

Once this information is provided, the app generates a personalized avatar that showcases various outfits on the user’s lock screen. Users can tap a button to view additional outfit suggestions sourced from partnered e-commerce sites, with Glance boasting partnerships with over 400 retailers.

Engaging User Experience

With Glance AI, users can browse through numerous outfit suggestions and even display them on their lock screens. The app offers recommendations for other items, such as a guitar or a candle, although purchasing options for these items are not yet available. Future updates will allow users to refine their suggestions through an upvote/downvote mechanism and utilize chat features for specific fashion inspiration.

Glance’s Growing User Base

With more than 300 million active users across markets like India, Japan, and Indonesia, Glance primarily showcases its content on the lock screens of Android devices. India remains the largest market for the company, which piloted its lock screen solution in the U.S. last year in collaboration with Motorola. Furthermore, Glance is expanding its reach by introducing content on smart TVs.
