Gmail Introduces New ‘Add to Calendar’ Button Fueled by Gemini Technology

Google Workspace customers can now enjoy a remarkable new feature in Gmail, thanks to the innovative capabilities of Google’s Gemini AI. This feature allows users to seamlessly add events to Google Calendar directly from emails, enhancing productivity and streamlining scheduling.

Automatic Event Detection in Gmail

Starting this Monday, Gmail users will benefit from the power of Gemini AI, which automatically identifies calendar-related content within emails. When such content is detected, an “Add to calendar” button will be displayed, making it easy for users to schedule events without leaving their inbox.

How to Use the New Feature

Once users click the “Add to calendar” button, a side panel in Gmail opens, confirming that the event has been successfully added to Google Calendar. Here are some key points regarding this feature:

  • The feature is currently available only in English.
  • It is accessible on the web version of Gmail.
  • Events created via this button will not include additional guests.
  • It does not apply to emails containing already-extracted events, such as restaurant and flight reservations.

Eligibility and Activation

The new Gemini-powered “Add to calendar” feature is available for users on Google Workspace Business and Enterprise tiers, as well as those with Gemini Education, Gemini Education Premium, or Google One AI Premium plans. Users who had previously purchased the now-discontinued Gemini Business or Gemini Enterprise add-ons are also eligible. Admins can activate this feature by enabling smart features and personalization from the Workspace Admin console.

More Gemini-Powered Tools Coming to Gmail

This is not the only enhancement that Gemini AI has brought to Gmail. In June 2024, Google introduced additional capabilities to help users craft emails, summarize email threads, and search for specific information within their inbox. These features have also been rolled out to the Gmail apps on iOS and Android.
