In a significant announcement ahead of the Game Developers Conference (GDC), Google unveiled exciting new features for PC and mobile gaming, aimed at enhancing the user experience and supporting game developers. With updates including control customization, new titles, and improved developer tools, Google is set to transform the gaming landscape.

New Developer Tools for Enhanced Gaming Experience

As part of its latest offerings, Google is introducing a range of developer tools designed to streamline the game development process:

  • Dedicated SDK: A special Software Development Kit (SDK) for native PC games on Google Play Games, featuring in-app purchase integration.
  • Updated Play Console: Improvements to the Play Console will allow for better distribution and management of various builds for mobile and PC games.
  • Default Availability: By default, all mobile games will be accessible on PC through the Play Store, although developers can choose to opt out.
  • Optimized Listings: Games that are specially tuned for PC will display an optimized icon, while others will have a “playable” badge after testing.

Support for AMD-Based Systems

Google is expanding support to include AMD-based laptops and desktops for Google Play Games on PC. Additionally, users will find Play Games conveniently accessible from the start menu across various PC manufacturers.

Advancements in Graphics and Performance

Google is also enhancing the gaming experience with new graphics technologies:

  • Vilkan Graphics API: A new API aimed at delivering smoother frame rates and improved visuals.
  • Ray Tracing: The introduction of ray tracing technology for more realistic graphics.
  • Android Dynamic Performance Framework: Improvements for a more responsive gaming experience.

User Acquisition Campaigns

Later this year, developers will have the opportunity to launch user acquisition campaigns for both mobile emulated and native PC titles within Google Play Games for PC. Furthermore, game makers can port their games to the Google Play for PC program and potentially earn an additional 15% earnback.

Exciting New Game Titles Announced

At GDC, Google showcased several new PC-optimized titles, including:

  • Game of Thrones: Kingsroad
  • Sonic Rumble
  • ODIN: VALHALLA RISING

Thanks to the mobile games porting feature, users will also be able to enjoy Train Sim and Pet Shop Fever: Animal Hotel on their PCs. Additionally, Google is planning to bring popular PC titles to mobile, such as DREDGE and TABS Mobile, with the mystery game Disco Elysium set for release later this year.

User-Friendly Features for Gamers

To enhance gameplay, Google is rolling out custom controls for PC games, allowing players to remap controls for a more personalized experience. Furthermore, a game sidebar will be introduced for quick adjustments, complete with multi-account support.

Play Points Tracking Made Easy

Google has announced that tracking and using Play Points will be simplified on PC, offering up to 10x points boosters for purchases.
