Instagram Edits Surpasses 7 Million Downloads in First Week, Outpacing CapCut’s Launch Success!

Meta’s latest video creation app, Instagram Edits, has made a significant impact since its launch, surpassing the initial debut of its competitor, ByteDance’s CapCut. Designed to help users create engaging videos for Instagram reels, stories, and other social media posts, Edits enjoyed a remarkable start with impressive download numbers.

Impressive Launch Statistics for Instagram Edits

In just the first two days since its release, Instagram Edits was downloaded approximately 702,900 times on iOS devices. This figure is nearly 37 times higher than the downloads that CapCut experienced during its initial launch period, as reported by app intelligence provider Appfigures.

Overall Download Growth

  • As of Thursday, Edits has reached a total of 1.2 million downloads on iOS and 5.9 million downloads on Android, totaling 7.1 million downloads.
  • In contrast, CapCut managed only 83,500 downloads during its first three days across both iOS and Android platforms.

Edits vs. CapCut: A U.S. Market Comparison

Focusing on the U.S. market, Edits was downloaded 381,000 times within its first three days, while CapCut only saw 3,400 downloads during its debut. This indicates that Edits launched with a staggering 112 times more downloads than CapCut.

App Ranking and Visibility

Edits’ rapid adoption contributed to its high ranking on the U.S. iPhone App Store, where it achieved:

  • No. 1 on the Top Overall apps chart on its first day (April 22)
  • No. 2 on both charts by the second day
  • No. 3 by the end of the week

Due to the App Store’s tracking of downloads and installation velocity, Edits currently ranks higher than CapCut, which was placed at No. 14 Overall and No. 10 among non-game apps after its first three days.

Long-Term Outlook for Instagram Edits

Despite its strong start, Edits has a long way to go to match CapCut’s overall user base. Launched in April 2020, CapCut has been downloaded over 1.22 billion times worldwide, excluding China.

User Feedback on Instagram Edits

Feedback from creators about Edits has been mixed, as highlighted by social media marketing consultant Lia Haberman. Key points of praise include:

  • Ease of use
  • Built-in analytics
  • Ad-free experience
  • Support for 4K video
  • Watermark-free exports

However, some users have criticized Edits for lacking several features that CapCut offers, such as:

  • Templates
  • A variety of transition effects

As Instagram Edits evolves, there is potential for it to catch up with CapCut. However, future monetization strategies, such as introducing a paid tier or ads, may also come into play.
