Pebble Innovator Launches Exciting New Smartwatches Inspired by Classic Pebble Design!
Exciting news for smartwatch enthusiasts! Eric Migicovsky, the original visionary behind the Pebble smartwatch, has just launched two innovative smartwatch models, the Core 2 Duo and the Core Time 2. These devices aim to revive the spirit of the beloved Pebble brand while introducing new features and technology.
Introducing the Core 2 Duo and Core Time 2 Smartwatches
Available for preorder at prices of $149 for the Core 2 Duo and $225 for the Core Time 2, these smartwatches are set to make waves in the wearable tech market.
The Legacy of Pebble
In case you’re not familiar with the brand, Pebble was a groundbreaking smartwatch company that gained prominence through Kickstarter in 2012, long before the advent of the Apple Watch. With over 2 million devices sold, Pebble was a pioneer in the smartwatch industry, but it faced challenges and eventually closed its doors in 2016. The company’s assets were acquired by Fitbit, which is now a part of Google.
A Return to Simplicity
Fast forward to 2024, Migicovsky has a vision to return to the simpler technology of yesteryears. With the support of Google, which has open-sourced PebbleOS, Migicovsky’s new venture, Core Devices, is ready to launch these two new smartwatches.
Core 2 Duo: Features and Specifications
The Core 2 Duo is designed to bring back the essence of the original Pebble. Key features include:
- Always-on E Ink display
- Non-touch, black-and-white interface
- Bluetooth connectivity for notifications and music control
- Excellent battery life of up to 30 days
- Compatibility with thousands of watch faces and hackable apps
This smartwatch is perfect for users seeking a straightforward device that focuses on functionality.
Core Time 2: Enhanced Experience
The Core Time 2 boasts similar specifications as the Core 2 Duo but enhances the user experience with:
- A larger 64-color display
- A durable metal casing
- Touchscreen capabilities (although Pebble apps currently do not support touch)
This model is designed for those who want a more modern aesthetic without sacrificing the core features that made Pebble popular.
Shipping and Availability
According to Migicovsky, shipments for the Core 2 Duo are expected to commence in July, while the Core Time 2 will be available later in December.
A Passion Project
As Migicovsky states, “This project is a labour of love rather than a startup trying to sell millions of watches. There may be some rough edges, and some features may not be ready at launch, but we guarantee it will be an awesome experience.”
