Revamped Beeper Apps Launch: Discover the New Desktop and iOS Experience from Automattic!

Automattic, the owner of WordPress.com, has made headlines with its recent acquisition of the multi-service messaging app, Beeper, for a staggering $125 million. This strategic move aims to integrate Beeper with Texts.com, another messaging platform previously acquired by the company. As a result of this merger, Beeper has unveiled the first beta versions of its redesigned apps for both iOS and desktop users.

New Features in Beeper’s Redesigned Apps

Beeper has announced exciting new features in its latest app versions, which have been developed as follows:

  • The desktop app is built upon the foundation of the Texts.com application.
  • The iOS app has been developed entirely from scratch.
  • Both applications are designed to be faster and less battery-intensive.

Transitioning to the New Apps

Kishan Bagaria, the founder of Texts.com, shared on X that users can continue to use the existing app, but there will soon be a streamlined process for migrating to the new applications. This transition is expected to enhance user experience significantly.

Enhanced Privacy and Security Features

The latest versions of Beeper will utilize Beeper Cloud for storing messages and credentials. However, future updates will shift this data storage to on-device, improving security and privacy. Key enhancements include:

  • On-device encryption to protect user data.
  • Support for multiple accounts within the same messaging service.
  • Future updates will enable iMessage functionality within the Mac app.

About Beeper’s Founder and Future Plans

Beeper was founded by Eric Migicovsky, known for creating the Pebble smartwatch and for his involvement with Y-Combinator. Following the acquisition, he became the head of messaging at Beeper. However, in a recent announcement, Migicovsky revealed plans to refocus on the development of Pebble.
