Revel Launches San Francisco’s First-Ever EV Fast-Charging Hub

Brooklyn-based electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure startup Revel has launched its inaugural fast-charging station in San Francisco, marking the beginning of its ambitious expansion plans across the Bay Area. This move is set to enhance the EV charging landscape in one of the top electric vehicle markets in North America.

Revel’s Expansion Plans in the Bay Area

Revel has been recognized for operating the largest and most reliable fast-charging network in New York City. According to Frank Reig, co-founder and CEO of Revel, “Now we’re bringing our model to the number one EV market in North America.”

High Demand for EV Charging

The Bay Area boasts some of the highest electric vehicle ownership rates in the United States. In 2024, over 35% of new vehicle sales in San Francisco were electric, significantly surpassing the national average of approximately 8%.

Details of the New Charging Station

The first fast-charging station launched by Revel is located in the Mission District of San Francisco. This state-of-the-art station features:

  • 12 chargers with a 320 kW capacity
  • Built in collaboration with Kempower, a leading EV charging company
  • Public access 24/7 for all makes and models of electric vehicles

Future Plans for Expansion

Revel has ambitious plans to install over 125 additional chargers in urban centers, including:

  • San Francisco
  • Oakland
  • San Jose
  • South San Francisco

San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie highlighted the importance of these new chargers, stating they will facilitate the transition to electric vehicles for local residents.

Recent Developments in New York City

The launch in San Francisco comes just a week after Revel opened 24 new chargers at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, enhancing the airport’s EV infrastructure.

Funding and Future Growth

Last month, Revel secured a substantial $60 million loan from New York’s clean energy investment fund, NY Green Bank. This funding will enable Revel to triple its fast-charging network in New York, aiming for a total of 300 chargers by year-end, including a major site in Maspeth, Queens, and another near LaGuardia Airport.

Paul Suhey, co-founder and COO of Revel, emphasized, “Our mission at Revel is to bring reliable fast-charging to dense urban areas where EVs can have the biggest impact on quality of life, but where charging is hardest to come by.”
