Revolutionary AI App for New Parents: Insights from a Former Etsy Product Manager

Introducing Riley, a revolutionary parenting management app designed by Amanda DeLuca, a seasoned product manager with a rich background at major tech companies like Google, Nerdwallet, and Eventbrite. Born from her personal journey with parental anxiety and valuable feedback from families, Riley aims to simplify the parenting experience.

The Inspiration Behind Riley

Three years ago, Amanda DeLuca and her husband, both product managers, embarked on their parenting journey. Despite their extensive preparations through various resources, they found themselves unprepared when their daughter arrived. Frustrated by the inefficiency of existing solutions available online, DeLuca recognized a significant gap in the market.

Understanding the Challenges of Modern Parenting

“Parents in the U.S. struggle to find effective tools for tracking their baby’s milestones and accessing reliable parenting advice,” DeLuca explained in an interview with TechCrunch. “Many existing solutions are overwhelmed with content but lack technological efficiency. This area is vastly overlooked.”

Key Features of Riley

Currently in public beta, Riley offers two core functionalities:

  1. Tracking Tools: Users can monitor critical aspects such as sleep patterns, diaper changes, vaccinations, and feeding schedules. The app also provides AI-driven insights to help parents understand the best times for their baby to nap and the reasons behind changes in their sleep routine.
  2. Personalized AI Solutions: Through a data-driven approach, Riley offers tailored answers to parenting inquiries, leveraging medical and psychological research. The app is supported by a clinical board to ensure the quality of information.

“Our unique approach combines various data points from parents with scientifically-backed knowledge, ensuring a high standard for the data we utilize,” said DeLuca.

Onboarding Process and Future Plans

The onboarding process for Riley is straightforward, gathering information about parents, their children, and their parenting styles. Future updates aim to enhance this process to deliver even more customized recommendations from the outset.

As the app evolves, it will also inquire about the developing personality traits of babies, providing additional insights for parents.

Subscription Options

During the public beta phase, Riley offers a single subscription plan with a 30-day trial. The pricing structure includes:

  • $14.99 per month
  • $11.99 per month when billed quarterly
  • $9.99 per month for an annual subscription

The startup aims to exit the public beta later this year and introduce educational resources for parents, including training guides on topics like sleep training for infants.

Market Landscape and Funding

Riley is part of a rising trend of applications designed to enhance various aspects of life, from nutrition to family management. Competing with other parenting apps like Huckleberry (a sleep-tracking app) and Maple (a family management tool), Riley is positioning itself as a go-to resource for parents seeking reliable advice.

To expand its reach, Riley successfully secured $3.1 million in seed funding led by True Ventures, with contributions from Flybridge and Next Wave NYC. Natasha Sharma from True Ventures, who is joining Riley’s board, emphasized the demand for science-based parental guidance.

“Parents today face an overwhelming amount of information, making it difficult to find trustworthy answers to their most pressing questions,” Sharma noted in a statement. “Amanda’s experience as a parent inspired her to create a solution that families genuinely need — a platform offering science-backed advice tailored to individual family contexts, empowering families to thrive as they navigate parenting together.”
