Threads Unveils Exciting New Features to Enhance Topic Discovery and Control Replies
Meta’s social network, Threads, is rapidly evolving to enhance user experience and engagement, boasting over 320 million monthly active users. As a competitive alternative to X, Threads is now rolling out exciting new features focused on topics, reply controls, and video playback, alongside more personalized political content suggestions.
New Features to Enhance User Engagement on Threads
With the introduction of these features, Threads aims to become more relevant to its users, especially as it competes with emerging platforms like Bluesky, which has gained over 33 million users. These updates are designed to keep users engaged with the content on the platform.
Personalized Topic Interests
To help users connect better, Threads now allows users to add up to 10 interests to their profiles. By selecting these topics, users can discover related posts, making it easier to engage with like-minded individuals. This feature was recently tested and is rolling out more broadly today.
- Users can tap on topics to view relevant posts.
- Prompts for suggested trending topics will appear when composing new posts.
- Posts with tagged topics reportedly receive more views.
Enhanced Interaction Controls
Another significant update allows users to manage interactions on their posts. Users can now restrict replies and quotes to only their followers or specific individuals. This builds on the quote control feature introduced in November 2024.
Custom Feed Options
Threads is also enhancing user experience by allowing users to shuffle the order of their custom feeds. Users can now set a default custom feed that displays when they first open the app, responding to user requests for more personalized content delivery.
Improved Video Playback Experience
In addition to these features, Threads is launching a redesigned video player equipped with:
- Easy-to-access pause/play and skip controls
- A pinned progress bar for effortless video navigation
Personalized Political Content Suggestions
Meta is also reintroducing civic and political content into Threads in a more tailored manner. After a controversial pause in proactive political recommendations in 2024, the company aims to personalize the political content users see based on their preferences. This adjustment is part of Meta’s broader strategy to create a personalized echo chamber for users, allowing them to engage with content that aligns with their views.
As Threads continues to develop, Meta emphasizes that it will actively listen to user feedback to enhance the platform further. For more updates on Threads, visit the Meta Newsroom.
