Unlock Productivity: Microsoft’s Copilot-Enhanced Surface Pro and Laptop PCs Now Available with Snapdragon and Intel Options!
Microsoft has recently launched exciting new additions to its Surface line of PCs, unveiling the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop during an event in New York City. Both devices come with the innovative Copilot+ PC certification, a program designed to enhance business-focused devices through Microsoft’s AI platform, Copilot.
Enhancing Windows 11 with AI
The introduction of the new Surface devices aims to deepen the integration of Microsoft’s AI capabilities into the Windows 11 experience. This launch coincides with a surge of other Copilot+ certified PCs from manufacturers such as Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.
What is Copilot+ Certification?
Copilot+ certification highlights devices equipped with a neural processing unit (NPU), enabling features like:
- Live Translation
- Super Res
- Recall
- Studio Effects
Processor Options and Performance
Both the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop are available with either an Intel Core Ultra (Series 2) or Snapdragon X processor. Qualcomm recently announced its intention to bring a 4nm Snapdragon chip to mid-range systems, boasting:
- Extended battery life
- Lower price point
Qualcomm promises “multi-day” usage on a single charge, while Intel’s option provides up to 22 hours. However, the tradeoff is a potential decrease in system performance, although Microsoft assures that Copilot’s functionality will largely remain unaffected.
AI Focus and Connectivity
Copilot’s performance is a major selling point. The Snapdragon configuration features an eight-core processor with a dedicated NPU for AI tasks, while the Intel Series 2 chips offer significant boosts in CPU and graphics performance—up to 28% and 98%, respectively.
Later in 2024, the Surface Laptop will introduce a 5G option, enhancing its capability to combine local AI functions with cloud processing. This is particularly important as most generative AI platforms currently rely on remote servers for resource-heavy tasks.
On-Device AI Experiences
Recent developments, such as the reveal of DeepSeek‘s lighter-weight AI models, emphasize the potential for running AI on consumer devices. Microsoft aims to follow suit by offering more on-device AI experiences, though many Copilot processes still require advanced hardware.
Device Features and Pricing
The Surface Pro for Business boasts a 13-inch display with an OLED option and a built-in NFC reader. The Surface Laptop is offered in 13.8-inch and 15-inch models. Pricing for these devices starts at:
- $1,500 for Intel Core models
- $1,100 for Snapdragon models
The 5G version of the Surface Laptop is expected to launch in 2025, with pricing details to be announced later.
New Accessories
Additionally, Microsoft is releasing a new USB4 Dock, priced at $200. This hub will feature:
- Two USB-C ports
- One USB-A port
- Ethernet port
- HDMI port
The USB4 Dock will be available on February 18, alongside the new Surface devices.
