In the rapidly evolving payments landscape, innovation is key to staying ahead. At a recent conference, Brulard addressed a packed plenary hall of 1,000 attendees from 90 countries, highlighting the significant advancements in the payments sector. With a backdrop of 347 go-live projects, he emphasized the celebration of achievements across continents, particularly in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, while acknowledging the essential role of customer implementation, supported by Temenos.

Customer-Centric Approach in the Payments Industry

Emphasizing a strong commitment to customer centricity, Brulard shared insights from his extensive ‘Listening & Learning Tour’, during which he traveled 45,000 miles to gather direct feedback from customers and partners. This feedback revealed four key challenges:

  • Growth through differentiation and technology
  • Enhancing customer centricity across multiple channels
  • Achieving operational efficiencies
  • Addressing risk and compliance issues

Brulard noted, “These challenges were present last year. However, this year brings a new issue: macroeconomic uncertainty. In such times, organizations face a choice: postpone investments or focus on critical areas like technology. History shows that banks investing in technology during crises not only perform better but also widen the gap with competitors.”

Leading the Future of Banking

Following this discussion, Brulard unveiled Temenos’ mission statement and tagline, “Leading Banking Forward,” which encapsulates the collaborative effort to innovate in banking. He concluded his session by stating, “This is not just our journey but our collective purpose as a community to lead banking forward.”

Leveraging AI for Better Banking Solutions

Barb Morgan, Chief Product and Technology Officer, introduced several new developments in generative AI and agentic AI, echoing Brulard’s sentiments about the importance of customer contributions in shaping the mission. Morgan stated, “We didn’t create this mission in a boardroom; we shaped it with you, our customers and partners. Leading banking forward is a commitment, a call to action, and what we do has foundational impacts on economies and lives.”

During her presentation, Morgan shared a poignant story of a mother helped by a local banker after losing her home in a tornado, illustrating the profound impact banks have on individuals’ lives.

She then introduced the GenAI Copilot, a tool designed for customer use, which simplifies tasks such as applying overdraft limits and interest rates through integration with Microsoft Teams. Morgan emphasized the motto of “listening to lead” and demonstrated this through an engaging theatrical performance.

Additionally, Morgan announced the launch of two new tools: the Temenos AI Studio and the FCM AI Agent. The AI Studio allows customers to develop, customize, deploy, and monitor their own AI models, equipped with preloaded banking modules. “We’re bringing our expertise while empowering you to build your solutions,” Morgan explained.

The FCM AI Agent is a pioneering training solution focused on compliance, risk, and financial crime, and has received regulatory acceptance for its explainability and sanctioned screening features.

Innovating Service Delivery

On the first day of the conference, Temenos CRO Will Moroney elaborated on their systemized service delivery approach, emphasizing collaboration not just within the 750 Temenos employees but also involving 8,000 partners. Moroney stated that success is defined by the seamless integration of their teams, making it difficult to distinguish between Temenos staff and partners.

Throughout the day, discussions on innovation continued, focusing on the practical applications of generative AI and agentic AI. These included case studies with industry leaders and a keynote from Christian Saredis, Chief Executive of EMEA Financial Services at Microsoft.
