The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has officially launched the 2025 Green FinTech Competition, a global initiative that aims to ignite innovation at the crossroads of finance and sustainability. This competition is designed to enhance Hong Kong’s reputation as a leading hub for green financial technology.

In collaboration with the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers and supported by notable institutions such as the Institute of Sustainability and Technology, Hong Kong Cyberport, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks, and Invest Hong Kong, the competition serves as a key component of the HKMA’s strategy to promote sustainable development in the financial sector.

Key Themes of the Competition

This year’s competition will focus on five critical themes that address urgent challenges and opportunities in the financial landscape:

  • Sustainable Supply Chains and SME Support
  • Advanced Climate Risk Modelling and Analytics
  • Carbon Market Technology
  • Sustainable Investment Strategies
  • Green Banking and Financing Products

By concentrating on these themes, the HKMA aims to encourage the use of FinTech solutions that enhance environmental resilience, promote decarbonization, and empower financial institutions to achieve sustainability objectives.

How to Participate

Companies from around the globe are invited to submit their proposals addressing at least one of the thematic areas by the deadline of June 6, 2025. Submissions must be made through the official competition website.

Judging and Awards

A panel of judges, comprised of leaders from various sectors including banking, investment, technology, academia, and professional services, will evaluate the entries based on:
