Unlocking Banking Innovation: Temenos Unveils GenAI’s Revolutionary Impact on the Financial Sector

In a recent survey by Hanover Research for Temenos, a premier provider of banking technology, it was found that a vast majority of banks are actively investigating the implementation of Generative AI (GenAI) to improve their operational efficiencies. This growing interest highlights the transformative potential of GenAI in various banking operations.

Survey Insights on GenAI Adoption in Banking

The survey, which included responses from 420 business and technology leaders in the financial services sector, revealed compelling data about the interest in GenAI:

  • 75% of banks are looking into GenAI deployment strategies.
  • 36% have already begun implementing GenAI technology.
  • 39% are evaluating opportunities for future deployments.

The primary motivations for this surge in interest include enhancing operational efficiency, improving customer experiences, and driving business growth. Notably, nearly 43% of banks currently involved with GenAI plan to increase their investments in the technology over the next year.

Concerns Surrounding GenAI Implementation

Despite the enthusiasm surrounding GenAI, significant concerns persist among banking professionals:

  • Data Protection: 86% of respondents identified this as a major issue.
  • Compliance with Legal Requirements: 60% cited this as a concern.
  • Inaccuracy Risks: 59% worry about ‘hallucinations’—instances where GenAI generates incorrect information.

Isabelle Guis, Chief Marketing Officer at Temenos, emphasized the dual nature of the findings: “This survey highlights both the enthusiasm and challenges banks are facing as they explore GenAI. There’s huge potential for GenAI to enhance efficiency, address operational challenges, and elevate the customer experience. However, concerns around data privacy, legal requirements, and accuracy remain paramount. GenAI is not a silver bullet—banks also need to maintain a human touch to ensure that customer interactions remain differentiated and build trust.”
